About John C. Carpenter, Esq.

A native Californian, John was admitted to the California State Bar and the U.S. District Court, Northern District of California, on June 24, 1976 and to the Alaska State Bar in 1983. He was admitted to the U. S. District Court, Central District of California, in 1977, the U.S. District Court, Eastern District in 1997, and the U.S. District Court, Southern District in 1998. He received his B.A. degree in Government in 1970, and his J.D. degree in 1975, from the University of San Francisco. At law school he received the Bancroft-Whitney American Jurisprudence Award for Corporate Law.

Memberships & Licenses:

John is a member of the California Bar Association, the Alaska Bar Association, and the Los Angeles County Bar Association. He was appointed to and served on the Corporations Committee of the Business Law Section of the State Bar of California (2000 to 2004). He was appointed to and serves on the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee of the Business Law Section of the State Bar of California (2004). He is also a licensed real estate broker. He has lectured to attorneys (“Covenant Not to Compete”, Continuing Education of the Bar, Berkeley, California, January, 2003; “Drafting and Negotiating an Alternative Dispute Resolutions Clause”, Continuing Education of the Bar, Huntington Beach, California, May, 2004; “Alternative Dispute Resolution”, North Dakota Bar Association, San Jose, Costa Rica, March, 2006). He has also been a contributing author on Healthcare issues to the Los Angeles Radiology Society’s Insights Magazine since 1997.

Background & Experience:

John is a graduate of the American Arbitration Association’s training program for Mediators, and serves as a mediator on court-appointed mediations in Los Angeles County Superior Court.

John has received an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell, and practices in the areas of Business, Corporate, Healthcare, Employment and Real Estate law, in both transactional and litigation matters.

He has represented individuals and companies in traditional business and contract disputes, including shareholder and partnership disputes, employment and wrongful termination, mergers and acquisitions and real estate litigation.

He has represented companies and individuals in negotiating and securing complex financial and sales agreements. He has documented and provided legal advice to individuals and businesses regarding general business, healthcare, employment and financial matters, including the choice of legal entity, joint venture and partnership agreements, hospital and medical group contracts, purchase and sale of businesses, and commercial and residential real estate transactions.
